![]() It's probably loud enough for a small gig but will be wanting for anything halfway serious. But I found the bass and trebles both boosted when flat. I found the Rumble 100 to have a special sound that some might like. It's an ok amp, but at $300 very limited when for approximately $20-30 more you can get a BG250 or a GK Mb110. In last place of 3 was the Fender Rumble 100. On the plus side, the built-in tuner is really nice to have. Additionally I am told (though haven't experienced it) that XLR out bypasses any toneprint effect you might have. You cannot download EQ's and Toneprint editor is not available for the amp. The toneprint thing on the amp only allows you to download SPECIAL EFFECTS. I actually felt a bit betrayed in this regard. Frankly, the toneprint on the amp is (IMO) over-hyped and has limited usefulness. One of my big complaints is how TCE really hypes the toneprint thing for the amp (as well as it's pedals). ![]() The separate gains and master volume are helpful in finding a variety of tones as turning up the gain really helps bring out crispness. When I went to change basses it was difficult to find the sound I wanted for each. Somehow it shifts frequencies of the adjustments, supposedly to make it easier to get a better sound with EQing, but I found it to be the opposite. While that undertone gives it an aura of depth it also eclipses some of the clarity of the notes. The natural sound of this amp has a deep undertone. 18.2" x 24.4" x 15.0" 35 pounds It too is a very good amp. Runner up and almost a keeper was the TC Electronic BG250-112. If your budget is only around $300 you should seriously consider this amp. LOUD! I'd probably have gone for this one but I got a deal on the 112 narrowed the difference to $70 for the 112 vs the 110. Again, only 30 pounds (13.7 Kg for those over yonder).Īs an alternative, I strongly considered the GK MB 110, the 100 watt/10" version. It's even smaller than the Rumble 100 and puts out significantly more sound. That is the key ingredient to it being the winner. No master, but 4 eq knobs, a single gain/volume control, a contour switch and -10db switch. Can't play it at home without the -10db switch and still the volume is at 2. This is the third of three amps that I purchased, returning the other two. Overall good condition, except the wheels have cracked and it's show a little bit of wear. I used to play gigs with this beast, but it's been a while since then. Hello,Thanks for looking selling my Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head and Backline 410blx II Bass Cab. If you want a music player that doesn’t clone iTunes, use GNOME’s Muine. It is just as innovative as commercial software, meaning that maybe 1 out of 100 programs try something new. It is the exact opposite of almost everything I’m looking for in an audio player.įor all of you saying that OSS is not innovative, I beg to differ. I absolutely DESPISE iTunes … hate it with a passion. ![]() I have not tried most of the players mentioned here as of yet, but I intend to. Thus far, Winamp is the closest thing I’ve found to my ideal player, though it still has too much crap, IMHO. (I’ve found a few plugins in Winamp that are designed to do this, but all the ones I’ve seen are more trouble to use than they’re worth.) A ‘bookmark’ feature wouldn’t hurt either, so that if I’m listening to an audiobook (which I do often), I could bookmark my position and next time I start up that file again, I can continue right where I left off last time. Variable speed playback (eg – the pacemaker plugin in Winamp)Ħ. Ability to use the arrow keys to fast forward/rewind and control the volumeĥ. Consumes very little screen real-estate when in ‘compact mode’Ĥ. Able to play all the major audio formats (esp mp3 and aac)ģ. All that stuff is great, but I don’t need it 98% of the time, so I’d rather either have it seperate or at least modular so I can load it only when I need it.Ģ. ![]() I don’t need CD burning/ripping, the visualization crap, skinning, tag editing or file organization. When I am playing music or audiobooks, the ONLY thing I need is an audio player. Can you do that with iTunes? Truthfully though, I’d like to find something that is lighter than that. ![]() Right now, I’m running Winamp Lite 5 – it is consuming about 2.6MB of RAM. Ok, now I will leave tha path open for all the rest of people who want to say how superior iTunes is (20% of you), those who will attack *why* it’s not on Linux first (another 20%), then those who say they prefer Juk/Rhythmbox/XMMS because whatever (20%), and the other 80% who will attack me back on my OSS views. It’s an amazing feat you have accomplished this far, even at this young age. I guess I’m one of those on this side of the debate that thinks about computers as tools FIRST and FOREMOST, and as an object of politics second (or third, or…) Ok, excuse me for starting to go off-topic, it’s just that this political subject is currently in vogue, and you can actually breathe it in the air. Yet we demonize Netscape while we praise Firefox, we demonize Sun and praise OOo. Sun paid millions of dollars to buy the StarOffice product, which was very advanced by then. Many OSS zealots like to quickly forget or dismiss that most of the prominent and successfull OSS projects that are having traction on Windows (and off) started as proprietary projects, with heavy investments already been made.įor example, OpenOffice did not start as an Open Source Project. This project is interesting in the fact that it is one of the few and first that is written 1) under OSS politics, 2) developed for Windows first, and 3) has *not* been started from the works of an existing commercial venture. (yeah, MP3tunes is easy to remember, just like the Lindows name was □ Sans the music stores, of course, but then again, it could grow to work with Linspire’s MP3tunes, or with that other store that uses OGG, whose name escapes me now. Then, it will be pretty much up to par with WMP, iTunes and MusicMatch. The main features missing for normal-to-advanced users are CD burning, and visualizations. Truly, it is not exactly eye-candy, but it is not a pain to the eyes either. This software seems to have almost all of the power and flexibility of Windows Media Player, while not being as resource intensive. ![]() The Swissotel Nai Lert Hotel has stopped existing beginning 2017, if we remember well. Many of the shrine's sex symbols are painted solid red. Ehrlich, a Bangkok-based reporter and writer offers this explanation for the bright red color of the lingams at the shrine : We surmise that the name Chao Mae Tuptim, is related to the color of the phallic objects. Interestingly, you will notice that a lot of the wooden lingams around the shrine have an intense red color, resembling the color of pomegranate juice. There is also a local variety of orange (blood orange) that has tuptim in its name, and its pulp has the same color as the pulp of a pomegranate. Tuptim (or rather taptim) means pomegranate in Thai language. We offer our own explanation here which may be a bit presumptuous. The name for the Goddess is not explained. A lot of the wooden lingams are very brightly colored in red. As indicated the place has a lot of lingams, some a few meters long. Most likely, 'exhibits' like this are not really politically correct, and not proper for hi-so Thai society. The shrine is not advertised anywhere, and we doubt that even the guests at the hotel are told about its existence. Flash photography (almost by accident) revealed it to us. Pirate crews need to be nearly proportionate to crew members on the commercial vessels being hijacked so the split generally has to be divided between a lot of people. A band of pirates is usually headed by a kingpin who organizes the mother ship and negotiators, who have higher education and can command up to 5 percent of the payout. As mentioned repeatedly in the film, the hijackers are rarely the sole profiteers from a hostage taking scenario. Ransoms have increased in value from under a million dollars on average per year in 2005 to an average payment of $5 million in 2011 (although the average dropped in 2012 to $4 million). ![]() Indeed, ransom payments are the main venture of real-life Somali pirates, unlike the small-scale robberies of the initial Somali piracy narrative. Thus, the movie presents a rather subtle and nuanced view of the current scenario for piracy in East Africa. In another instance, when asked by the titular Captain Phillips, played by Tom Hanks, the pirates respond rather sarcastically that of course they are all just fishermen. A sleepy eyed Muse, the captain of the pirates who board the Maersk Alabama (played by Somalia born actor Barkhad Abdi), is forced at gun point to assemble his pirate crew. At the beginning of the film, the pirates are roused from their village by men with guns who work for a kingpin. Idealistic as the Somali pirates may have been initially, it becomes clear in the movie that by 2009 the original piracy motivations no longer applied. In the movie, Muse also bemoans his lack of opportunities, and the pirates come across as young and desperate to succeed in getting a large ransom payment. A bulk of respondents listed themselves as unemployed or employed in informal business activities, such as khat sales and transportation. In a United Nations survey of 56 pirates, only 14 of them listed their former occupation as fisherman. Transnational Organized Crime East Africa Threat Assessment, the focus on commercial fishing vessels in the Gulf of Aden and the Somali Basin is actually on the decline, rather the focus is on commercial vessels from countries willing to pay out ransom. However, this narrative of fishermen turning to piracy because their waters are overexploited is often overstated and oversimplified. ![]() These fishermen originally demanded fines, working as the unofficial “Somali Coast Guard” (also referenced in the movie), from exploitative foreign commercial fishing vessels. The gist of the Somali pirate narrative alluded to in the movie is that the pirates are fisherman who got their start combating overfishing and polluting in their waters. While some media outlets have reported that the movie unfairly left out the background of the Somalis who are drawn into piracy, there are several allusions to a widely discussed Somali piracy narrative within the film. “Captain Phillips” is a Hollywood portrayal of the 2009 hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates off of the coast of Somalia.
